Hypnosis may be utilized for relaxation, weight management, smoking cessation, and pain management and may be combined with traditional methods of psychotherapy. Hypnosis is a natural, yet altered state of being, where the mind becomes relaxed. It is in this relaxed state of mind that one allows themselves to be open to positive suggestion.
A hypnotherapist works with the client to guide them into a relaxed state where they (the client) can then use the power of their own subconscious mind to create new and healthy habits. The job of a hypnotherapist is to act only as a guide and a teacher. Clients must want to make the change for themselves or the journey is fruitless.
The hypnotherapist will continue to work with a client for as long as necessary to teach the process of self-hypnosis. Self-hypnosis is a tool that once learned, the client will always be able to use to help them create positive changes in their life whenever they feel necessary.
